Mary Ann Miller has a devious mind. She must have a twisty mind to plot out such a Byzantine mystery. Jhonni Laurent is the sheriff of Field’s Crossing, Indiana. She won in a contentious race full of dirty tricks by her rival. Now, she faces the monumental task of finding out who murdered one of her best friends. Her problem is magnified by not having a single suspect but having a wealth of realistic suspects.
Miller crafted a story populated by believable characters. The
dysfunctional family of the victim tops the list of suspects. Their
dysfunctions are easily recognized by any who have ever delved beneath the placid
surface of family relations.
One murder becomes more than one, and the sheriff is bemused
by how little she knew in the town she thought she knew thoroughly.
I enjoyed the Byzantine twists of this book. The characters
could be people you know. Those people may be capable of actions that would
grossly surprise you.
I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.
