Deadly Tides by Mary Keliikoa

Jax lost a child and hasn’t recovered.  Abbey, Jax’s wife, hasn’t recovered either and the two join the ranks of parents who divorce after the loss of a child.  Abbey is FBI and Jax is a Misty Pines sheriff.  A missing surf shop owner and jealousy bring the two together in a manner that may heal their wounds or irrevocably drive them apart.

Kerliikoa has crafted believable characters with credible grief.  Insecurity lies just under the surface in many apparently confident people. The walk in their moccasin’s adage is accurate.   It is impossible to know what internal crisis motivates behavior.  Can loss provoke unthinkable behavior in heretofore law-abiding reasonable people?

The book had abundant action, subtle treachery, rampant insecurity, and a suitably complex plot.

I recommend it.
