Asylum Murders by Michael G. Colburn

Lady Edith Black is back. Edie is now in Australia with her beloved Benji, who is less than a bit player in this story. Multiple storylines include the Sargent at Arms’ mace being stolen, an old friend, Britina, being put in a precarious position, an old villain, Henderson, returning, as well as a mysterious Dr. Snow.  There are medical experiments, corpse robbing, grand theft, and murder to spice things up.

Edie has not changed in personality.  She still ignores authority when it is inconvenient. She has cultivated an ally in Chief Inspector McElroy, who holds her in both esteem and trepidation.  An American Doctor Tharp, gets involved with enthusiasm. There is plenty of action, featuring a variety of villains. Of course, with homage to the book title, there is a disturbing asylum stocked with corpse-loving nurses.

 I enjoyed the book.

 I recommend it.
